Has anyone taken the Hawaiian early morning (08:05) departure for Vegas? It arrives ~ 16:30 - very convenient. I'm taking a few days in the 9th Island when I leave from my next trip to HNL in Nov. Have the buffets started up again at the Wynn and Bellagio (better question: are they any good anymore?)?

The lack of spare planes in Hawaii is what has stopped me from booking on Southwest already. Lack of assigned seats is also a negative, and we will only have carry-ons.
If Hawaiian or Southwest has a worthwhile sale ($100 or more, each) sometime soon, that may well be the determining factor.
Today the Hawaiian fare dropped $50 and matched the Southwest fare so I bought the Hawaiian tickets.
I was a little apprehensive about the Southwest deal of not assigning seats, even though the flight times were better, because I want an aisle seat.
I usually fly United or American into LAX. This will be my first direct Las Vegas flight.

I've only used Hawaiian interisland.
I’m on the 8:55pm United HNL-LAX tonight connecting to LAS. I’m always United as I always get upgraded to lie-flat first class seats for free with my lifetime Global Service status.
I fly free standby on Hawaiian but so far down the list on generally full flights I don’t bother even attempting the Vegas flights but comes in handy interisland or international like Australia
Bacchanal at Caesar's is $80 p.p., Wynn $70, so they aren't using the buffets as a lure like in the old days.
Bellagio: $60-65.
One of the main attractions of a vacation for me is eating I have a healthy lifestyle at home, don't smoke, drink little, exercise etc... So, I really enjoy eating out on vacation - especially since there are so few places to eat out in my tiny town. Good thing I'm a pretty reasonable cook. I'm willing to pay for quality over quantity when it comes to a buffet (remind's me of the $1.49 buffet scene in "Vegas Vacation")
My favorite in Honolulu used to be the Friday and weekends Surf and Turf at the Hale Koa AFRC where I stay. Great price and good, fresh, well done offerings if a bit small in selection. They've quit that and show no sign of restarting though the breakfast buffet is back on at almost double the price (which tells you why they haven't started the dinner one back). Nowadays my go to for a fancy Sunday brunch is Orchid's down the street at the Halekulani. Even it isn't what it used to be though... The Plumeria at the Kahala Resort doesn't even have that format anymore IIR. Last time I ate there the food and service was unexceptional to say the least...
Haven't been to Vegas in a couple years so I'm curious how the big lux end spreads are now. They were pretty darn good back when. I don't gamble so they're the biggest splurges I make there outside of blowing off a couple thousand auto rounds at the gun range...

I fortunately eat free at Bacchanal at Caesars - it seems to be the same now as pre-covid - but I wouldn't pay current prices. Prepare for a long line unless you have reservations or a high status players card.

Good deal!
I stay at the Bellagio, they and the Wynn are my two favorite yards and yards of conspicuous consumption and over indulgence there on the strip - I always have a res - have one already for Nov at Orchids - One less thing... There's of course the hotdog at the Fremont, haven't had one in ages. They compare poorly though with a fully dressed Lucky Dog in NOLA... At 1:30 am in the Quarters... If only because... Well, NOLA!

I used to stay at the Wynn but it became a ghost town, so I began staying at the Venetian instead.
In the Mid-1980s, the lunch buffet at Caesar's was $8.50. A lot compared to most at $3-5 dollars, but my favorite place.
I've read recent reviews saying that the buffet at Bellagio has decline in selection recently. No more caviar, or expensive seafood.
When Palms Resort opened the A.Y.C.E. Buffet a few years ago, it was excellent. Then it slid to average.
I've quit visiting buffets. For the higher prices, I prefer a nicer atmosphere, like St, Marks Square at the Venetian. Canaletto or Brera, for example.

I remember those days... The 80's were the heyday of the Vegas buffet (hey that rhymes). Used to fly in and out of Nellis occasionally and we'd partake of those excellent buffets (the $1.95 full monty breakfast at the Golden Nugget was just what the Dr ordered after a long night of "too much fun"). Surprisingly, the buffet at Shakey's near the main gate was a favorite of ours, when one opened in Auburn (where my son was going to school at AU) in the early 2000s it was a wave of nostalgia like stepping back into Chico's Pizza or Magoo's (No Hu Hu!) way back when...
I actually only hit buffets a couple of times during stays here or Vegas. I prefer Mom and Pop's in HNL or decent places to eat stuff I can't get at home in Vegas. Still, a nice buffet is pretty awesome but I suppose unsustainable price wise this day and age...
