Aloha,
Moving to Maui with a shipping question... does anyone know a cheaper shipping service if I'm trying to ship just a few boxes of personal items? I have things like: a guitar, a few clothes and shoes, a couple of pictures, a few books, and some movies... I've heard usps for a cheaper rate- but if I wanted to use a small seashipment... who's best to use? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Parcel post via the United States Post Office. You may want to hand carry the guitar. Books via media rate are pretty reasonable, too. If you don't have an address to send it to, send it to yourself via General Delivery to the post office you will be nearest. Parcels via parcel post can take six weeks to get here, though, so don't send anything you need right away.

You could check a freight forwarder and see about consolidating your freight with some other freight.

Thanks I will look into parcel post as an option. When you say hand carry the guitar, are you referring to taking it on the plane with me? I will have so much luggage as it is... do the airlines let you have more than 2 checked bags these days? I know they used to... Thanks for your help and information!

I think hotzcatz means HAND-CARRY -- as in carry-on. If you love your guitar, you will not let baggage handlers throw it around. Even if it's in a hard-shell case. Check the carry-on rules for your airline, but most allow guitars and other musical instruments (even though they may be oversized for the overhead bins) "as room allows."

If you don't love it that much, sell it and bring the cash. There are gorgeous Hawaiian guitars to be had on all islands.
