Default Schools in Hawaii

It depends on what island you're on, what part of town you are looking to live and what type of activities you want your son to be involved.

If you are not of Hawaii I would not recommend the Waianae or Nanakuli areas (O'ahu)
If you are military the two most common schools that have other military kids are Radford and Moanalua. Another area is on the Windward side...Castle High School (Kaneohe)

Although I grew up there it's been many years since I graduated High School and from what I know things have changed since I left. My family is considering moving back and I have a daughter starting high school next year. I looked at: http://doe.k12.hi.us/ to review reports on the schools and their current tests statistics.

Hope that helps!

Aloha

Angry Hawaii public schools are some of the worst in the nation!

If you haven't already moved here, I'd rethink it. I'm moving away because the public schools are so bad. My son is in the 8th grade and is being taught on a 5-6th grade level. I'm afraid that he is going to fail 9th grade in the mainland. Private school costs as much as a college education!
