Put your request on craigslist or even look in the paper. Sometimes VRBO has monthly rentals, versus standard weekly/nightly rentals. Perhaps your son might know someone as well?

I am not in Hawaii, But I am just going to reitterate (sp?) what Mar0 stated about craigslist.com. It a great source for rentals in Hawaii.

Be careful, very careful, about renting through craigslist. Scams are so numerous, it will really scare you.
Search this forum (Hawaii) about craigslist scams.
vrbo.com and homeaway.com (almost the same sites) are the safest places to look. They have guarantees if you follow the process properly.
Due to the economy, don't worry about the list price the landlords are asking. CALL (don't email) and explain what you want. You will receive a nice discount for a full month rental!
