Hmmm.... a week long celebration of Spam in Austin, TX, vs a one day celebration of Spam in Waikiki, HI.... maybe Austin really is the Spam capital of the world! LOL

Here's a description of the Waikiki "Spam Jam" festival that I got from Spam's website:
Waikiki SPAM JAM® Festival

If you want to experience an authentic SPAM JAM® Festival, the Waikiki SPAM JAM® Festival is the place to go. It’s a fun filled day of free entertainment and all things about the SPAM® Brand.
Held on one of the most beautiful and famous beaches in the world, the Waikiki SPAM JAM® Festival shows the world how much Hawaii loves the SPAM® Family of Products. It draws thousands of SPAM™ Fans every year with SPAM® recipes from the top restaurants in Hawaii and plenty of live entertainment. Best of all, proceeds go to help the Hawaiian Food Bank.

A week long celebration can't compete with the year long consumption of Spam by residents of Hawaii.

I checked the spamarama website and I guess I was off on the "week long" thing. I guess it's just a weekend event. It has been a while since I've been there.

wow, a whole day to celebrate Spam. Too bad you don't have one of these though...

Austin, MN - SPAM Museum

I believe the Vikings originally brought Spam to North America around 900 A.D., and taught the Native Americans how to process and package the product. The Native Americans in turn gave cans of Spam to the first French Trappers that came from Canada who in turn traded Spam with Laura Ingalls family.
