This is coming from a Kama'aina guy living far away from the islands.

I miss my manapua and Zippy's plate lunch! Hehehehe!

I also miss going to Times or Foodland and getting some LauLau.

Heck, I also miss eating Papaya's!! Man, the grocery stores around here don't sell any papayas!!!

The only food around here is fried chicken, steak and shake, and people chugging beer.

Just wanted to rant, and see if there are other locals currently on the mainland who are in the same boat that I'm in.

Would recipes help any? Two scoop sticky rice and kalbi or teri beef might be something you' be able to make. How about a loco moco? Scoop rice, flat kine hamburger patty, fried egg and brown gravy all over. Personally, I put ketchup on mine, but some folks have told me that's a complete aberration.

I suggest you check out L&L Barbeque. They have franchises all over the country. That's how I get my "fix" of plate lunches, katsu chicken, kaulua pork, and even SPAM!

OK, I'll have to add my $0.02 to "Dreaming of Hawaii" post... L&L on the mainland is soooooo different than it is on the islands. I'm in Seattle and they have Mexicans and White people cooking local food. Hmm... not the same but it is close enough. LOL

Eh, RickShawMan... Where you stay? (Just curious...)

KoaKine.... stop making me jealous brah! LOL Sounds ono!

I'm a local missing my island home too... :-[

arodrigues88, I guess we are lucky here in Denver. The owner is from Hawaii and so are most of the people who work there.
