Got a letter from Humana that they are cancelling their Gold Choice Medicare Advantage program effective Dec. 31. I suspect many other health insurance program providing Medicare benefits will be going away, too. Any one else's Medicare plan being eliminated?

Interesting topic you are bringing up. I know Blue Shield of California is not cancelling theirs because I am getting advertising up the ying yang for it (just today the latest one). What state are you in? Are there other competing Medicare Advantage plans in your area? Also, is Humana continuing other Med. Advantage plans of theirs, or was Gold Choice their only one? It may be that there will be a few plans go by the wayside, but that most will remain. We should know within a couple of weeks, as the annual election period begins Nov. 15 and plans will want to have their info out to people three or four weeks ahead of that, if not sooner. I plan to stay tuned to this thread.

I live in NM. Don't know if Humana is cancelling any of their other plans but will try to find out. Last year there were a few other Medicare Advantage Plans offered, but Humana's sounded the best an offered an optional vision and dental plan (not great plans but better than nothing).

This is a little inaccurate. For 2011, the Medicare payments to Medicare Advantage plans are not being reduced, but are frozen at 2010 levels. The reductions will begin in 2012, and they aren't all that draconian.

The physicians across the country are very concerned about this new health care bill and the effects it is already having on insurance plans. The docs are already planning conferences to address this issue. Hopefully some positives changes will result.

The cuts in medicare spending already made was from savings of cutting subsidies to advanatge plan payments by medicare. Bascailly if you watched the funding in the senate committee the cuts will bring it to same amount of cost to government as standard medicare pay for service. The first cut was just from those savings and already done.500 billion in tenyears is a little cut;all from advanatge plan cuts called savings in the CBO markup.

You are confused about the timing of things which are going to happen.

Default Here is a citation for my statement

It has been reported in reputable outlets that, as I said, the Medicare funding for their Advantage plans will be frozen in 2011, and that the cuts will begin in 2012. Here is one source: www.kaiserhealthnews.org/Stories/August/06/medicare-advantage.aspx
