Hello,
I recently moved to Houston and am planning to use marketplace for my health insurance as I don not have employer coverage . Few questions.

1) While filling up the application I find that I am eligible for premium tax credit of xxx per month. Will i get this if I purchase through the marketplace?

2) I completed the application and I am at the pay premium screen and I get a confirmation form the Insurance provider that I ll get a bill but no one contacted me yet. They say they do not see an applicatoin yet in their records. What should I do?

3) Tax credit? If i dont use the premium tax credit in point 1, will I get the amount back as refund or it would be counted as deduction resulting in lower tax?? My point was to pay the premium now and get it at after the tax filing.

4) For my child, the state agency is supposed to contact me, but that also did not happen on the scheduled interview date. How can i enroll the kid to any plans?

5 ) Can i get a private plan now and cancel it and go into open enrollment again in NOVember??

Thanks

  1. Yes.
  2. Wait. It can take up to 30 days b/4 your insurance company has been informed, possibly longer.
  3. Tax Credit. It is not a refund/deduction. You can take the tax credit when you file your 1040 for 2014.
  4. You'll need to contact the state agency. Most state agencies are overloaded.
  5. Yes. Private plan now through December, marketplace during open enrollment.
Consider talking to an insurance broker in TX. Might be your best way of navigating coverage for the three months to year-end and then next year through the exchange for the subsidized premium.
