It could be a combination of things...each by itself not a threat, but combine them just right, some threshold is reached (like age or a period of higher stress which was present), and the combination triggers a bleed. Just don't know yet. As for being afraid, there's certainly some of that, but now that I am taking an anticoagulant it would hopefully prevent the same "conditions" unless something really significant occurs.

My dad suddenly developed a blood clot - well, several - and after much testing (like you, he had no preexisting conditions that should cause all this), they discovered that he had an autoimmune disorder where his body was attacking his platelets so they weren't maturing fast enough, but they knew this so his body produced MORE platelets but they became malformed because they were under attack - yada yada yada yada - anyway here's the link:

You know what - right before he came down with this, he had an attack of shingles. I have wondered if this precipitated this disease.
He was 77 when he developed it. For the record, autoimmune disorders run on his side of the family. I also believe that some autoimmune disorders are exacerbated by stress.
He took Elliquis. But he missed a day of dosage and had a stroke. He was unusual though because most cases of this can be treated successfully. His doctor did say that missing that dosage actually could have allowed the stroke to happen.
Like I said, this condition is usually treated successfully. Good luck and please keep us posted.
