Parent passed away. Did not have chance to call insurance provider before they took out the monthly premium via electronic fund transfer.

How does one get this money back?

Will the company reinstate/reimburse the funds to existing checking account?
OR is it reimbursed to you, the adult child of the parent as the only survivor?

Thank you

I went through this recently with my sister who died last summer. You need to call the insurer for instructions. I called all sister's insurers - Medigap (Aetna), Part D (Humana), Dental (Delta). All three required I send a copy of the death certificate or death notice - and provided fax numbers. Because she left no will, her house needed to go through probate. Court appointed me personal representative (I had to see a lawyer). I then set up an Estate checking account. I faxed the death certificate w/written request to each insurer that checks be made payable to her Estate. All three sent checks payable to her Estate within a few weeks.

I don't know what the procedure would be if your parent left a will. The insurer should be able to answer that. They may want a copy of the will.
