Coronavirus nearly killed Michael Flor.

After he got out of the hospital following a 62-day stay, the bill he received nearly killed him too.

“I opened it and said, ‘Holy (expletive)!,” the Washington state resident recalled, according to the Seattle Times.

Around the clock care consisting of doctors, nurses and techs isn’t cheap. Besides he had Medicare and doesn’t matter how much they bill, the amount the hospital gets is set by the feds. In this case roughly $ 50,000. The charges are for the most part immaterial. Click bait article.

Hospitals rarely get total charges since Medicaid, private insurance and worker and compensation are either contracted or set rates by the government. Uninsured, well if you can’t afford insurance, odds are the hospital is not going to get the bill paid.

Might be "Click bait" but if the man was uninsured, that is what he would get billed. Then when he can't pay, forced into bankruptcy, then they write off that whole amount as a loss affecting their bottom line.
This article shows just another example how flawed our "health care" system is.

If someone was uninsured, pay'em $100 a month for life.

If they sue you, file bankruptcy.

Again, all that care isn’t cheap and he is alive because of that. In many cases, social workers are able to file for emergency Medicaid for uninsured that will cover retro for the hospitalization. Reform the insurance industry, that is certainly an issue. Just reminding the intensive labor cost in addition to the medical supplies utilized in caring for patients, especially critically ill ones.

Right or wrong, some may seem to think because it's a special situation, pandemic, that the charity fairy is going to suddenly appear and absolve people of their obligations.

I’m sure he will not pay that. Just sensationalism.
