I know this information is available but it seems vague ..especially Part D

If my birthday is early August and I've started Part A, 1 Aug. and Part B started 1 Sept., then are my deadlines to avoid penalty for Medigap 28 Feb, and for Part D 30 Nov.? I have also noticed people on this forum talking about 63 days w/o coverage is max but not sure if it applies to Part D enrollment as I'm seeing there is a 7 month initial enrollment window.

Am I correct in guessing:

Medigap Deadline - 6 months from birthdate?
Part D Deadline - 7 months ..3 mo before birthdate + birth month + 3 months after birth month?

Also, any suggestions for Plan G and Part D would be appreciated.

Age 65, pretty good shape, No healthe issues. No meds but one parent was diagnosed diabetic after age 80 and I wonder if i should beef up coverage because of it. My inclination is to not not worry about it ..my wife is more concerned than I am.

Default Question Answered

OK ...here's the answer to the Medicare "Part D" side of my question:

Your Medicare Part D Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) is a seven (7) month window of time that starts three months before your Medicare eligibility month (or 65th birthday month), plus the month of your Medicare-eligibility month (65th birthday month), and continues for three months after your birthday or Medicare eligibility month.

For example, if you turn 65 on February 10th, your birthday month is February, and your "Initial Enrollment Period" starts on November 1st (3 months before your birthday month) and continues through May 31st (3 months after your birthday month). Your Medicare Part D IEP therefore is November 1st through May 31st.

The "63 Day Rule" only applies AFTER the initial Enrollment Period (IEP)
