I'm handling my late step-father's estate. He passed in January 2022. Starting in February 2022 a bill from Quest Diagnostics arrived for bloodwork that was done in November 2021 while he was in the hospital. It had the wrong insurance company. My now 91 yr old mother called and told them the correct insurance. They said they would resubmit. Same thing the following month, and the month after that, and so on. We've had the insurance company involved in the calls. Finally in July I reached someone in Quest who actually understood and made the correction. We just received an EOB saying it was denied for Quest not submitting in a timely manner and that we owe nothing. Bill received from Quest demanding whole amount and that we never responded to previous bill. ??? I'm at a loss at to what to do next. My Mother is worried to pieces about it.

Should not be responsible for Quest Diagnostics error. Maybe for $100 pay the stupid bill. Maybe for $1000 offer to pay $100 & get paid in full in writing. Maybe get insurance company in the mix again if Quest only had a few months to submit a timely bill. Maybe get the doctor or hospital involved. Maybe have estate attorney involved no money left to pay anything.

I'm surprised to hear they denied it for not being timely. I had an MRI balance that medicare kept denying, saying it was car accident related when it was not. Eventually, almost two years later they finally paid it.

Reach out to the insurance company to see if that is an error and maybe reach out to medicare asking what you're supposed to do.

Quest could be in the wrong, depending on if they billed a previous insurance or someone else's insurance which they got wrongly from the database.

How much is the bill? Would it be easier just to pay it or something?

I know Quest could be pretty relentless. Been there, done that.

Quest kept sending it to UHC Golden Rule when it was supposed to be UHC Medicare Advantage. They had it right for several other bills before that. He had been in the hospital for a couple of weeks. The bill is over $700. We'd get a bill and call them to correct. We'd get a bbill and call them to correct. One of their Customer Service Reps actually told me it all goes to the same address so insurance company name shouldn't matter. I had UHC conferenced in on that call and she couldn't believe it.
