Uh. It is probably cheaper to do the surgery than deal with all the health issues associated with obesity-I would assume they are probably severe enough to justify. Medicaid is not like a cadillac program..... This would not be like having a tummy tuck.

and thats a problem? For you most likely .. fact is that by paying for her bypass surgery so she loses the fat they have the possibility to get her back to work .. being obese is a good reason to NOT be hired .. fat folks are an insurance libilatly.....
in the long run that surgery will save the state money down the road because she wont be as like to develope dibietes or heart problems and other long term health issues that will cost the state ( and the taxpayers ) extra.

Face it would you rather she be disabled and live off your taxes ( and everyone elses to ) or go back out into the world as a abled bodied citizen who can work and help pay the taxes ? ..
Dont dispute the idea of medicaid helping this lady to get back on the fast track .. the long term costs of her care as a fat lady to the traxpayers is far far more than the "fix' she is gonna get ..

I'd rather see Medicaid pay for an obese person's gastric bypass or lap band surgery so she can go on to live a healthy, productive life than see Medicaid give free insurance to lowlives who make a career out of living off the system, popping out baby after baby so they can milk the system even more.

Agreed, but most obese people are lazy and usually gain the weight back after such surgeries.

fact 1 - if the surgery helps them lose weight that means they lack motivation, willlpower and too lazy to try and lose weight the way everyone else does. OBVIOSULY it's not a problem thyroid, medication etc..

fact 2 - there have been several studies, one even posted on CD in the diet forum. Obese people don't learn how to eat nor do they want to.

Wow, some harsh comments regarding the obese. Me, I know there are some overweight people who have metabolic conditions and genetic inheritances that make it very difficult, if not impossible, to lose weight only through diet/exercise.

Calling ALL overweight people lazy is just not the truth if you've read some of the medical literature.

Cupcake - I can only hope that someday something happens to you that opens your eyes and makes you develop a little compassion and understanding.
