I have been fighting the worst case of vertigo that I have ever had for several months now. My PCP gave me 2 rounds of antibiotics thinking I had remnants of a sinus infection that I had back in June. They didn't help so I took matters into my own hands and went to see a ENT specialist. He ran some tests and gave me some exercises to do for the vertigo and they helped but I still have been having odd feelings that I just can't describe.. like maybe I lost my center of gravity or something.. Just very off with my balance or something. He sent me for a MRI Wednesday and today they called with the results.. I have a very small Memingioma tumor in my head and have to see a neurologist that he is referring me to. She told me these are usually slow growing and non cancerous.. I asked the nurse if this was the cause of the vertigo and related problems I have been having and she didn't know, that he saw my report, told her to call me to tell me and set me up to see the neurologist and that was all he told her.

I was SO blind sighted by this, caught me completely off guard and naturally this news upset the daylights out of me. It was the last thing I expected to hear. I have looked it up on the internet and am not nearly as concerned as I was at first since it seems to be a pretty common thing that effects mostly women. Treatment varies depending on where it is located and the symptoms one experiences with it. I have no idea yet where exactly mine is located. Hoping to find out more when I see the neurologist and that I see him next week..

Anyone here had this kind of brain tumor with really bad vertigo, a lot of nausea and that off balance feeling?

Get yourself looked at asap. I don't want to scare you; but my father in law was having symptoms for close to a year; finally ended up in the ER, they thought he had meningitis.. how wrong they were. At some point, the word cancer was mentioned in passing. A few weeks later he had more testing & a biopsy.

He had cancer covering the meninges; it was also in his spine & nervous system. His cancer was pretty rare, they had to send a biopsy to John Hopkins & he was not officially diagnosed until the day after he passed.

His doctor did not take his symptoms seriously & stopped practicing from what I heard.

While yours is probably nothing; they can usually tell by testing, I wouldn't put off being seen. Make sure you get copies of tests plus results.

Good luck.

Laura, if the doctors suggest removal of this tumor, please look into a non-surgical treatment called Proton Beam which has excellent results for head and neck tumors/cancers.

Beth- it sounds like that works but they are totally booked up and are selective as to who gets this proceedure..I have looked into the gamma knife if that turns into a option for me, it sounds a somewhat like that Proton Beam in how it works..

Roselvr- I am being looked at and will not waste any time getting it done. I wasted to weeks or better with my PCP, got tired of wasting that time with him and took matters into my own hands..He brushed me off when I requested a head X-ray or MRI so I found a doctor that would do it..

I am sorry about you FIL. That is so sad!

Laura707...I am sorry you are going through this. I can't wait until you're all better and back to your adventures again.
It's so true that we must take charge of our own health issues. Sorry, I do not know of anyone else who has experienced what you have, but I sure do know how health issues can blindside a person. This makes us appreciate life more after we come out the other side of it. Hang in there.

Thank you gentlearts. I have a great nephew that has brain tumors that made him go deaf in one ear and work with a guy that went deaf in one ear and went to the ENT to see why he went deaf and was found he had a brain tumor. But I was convinced that mine was inner ear trouble since I had just had a sinus infection in April and this showed up in June. I was also exposed to some really sudden loud noise in June that caused pain in my ear and thought that pushed my ear problem into more than what it already was. So, this whole time, I just knew it was a inner ear problem..

Man! I never had anything in my whole life blindsight me like the discovery of that tumor and I still don't know yet if that is the cause of my ear problems or not. I HOPE I don't have 2 separate issues going on here that I'll have to deal with.

I am finding more and more that these things are SO common! Everybody I talk to either has had one or knows someone who has... Now I am wondering why these are so common and what can be done to prevent them. Is it something in our environment or the food we eat..?

I go see a neurosurgeon on Monday, August 30th in the morning..

I recieved a Get Well card from my crew today that was mailed before this tumor thing even came up. All the guys signed it and it was one of those musical cards that plays "Hang On Sloopy Hang On".. It cracked me up! What a crew I have!!
