This sounds too far fetched.

There is hope. More people need to donate to STD research.

Despite funding challenges, Cullen and his team are inching closer to a cure. They conducted a study recently that identified the pathway herpes takes as it infects. They now know how herpes embeds itself into the cells and how it eludes treatment. Now that they have honed in on the physiology of the disease - and its triggers - researchers believe they are steps closer to creating drugs that could cure herpes.

Something doesn't add up.
Based on my work experience:
1. One "lick" does not equal infection;
2. Statistically, there are more chances that this child was abused than that he contracted this infection from putting condom in his mouth;
3. 4-year old child usually does not put trash in their mouth unless there is something wrong with them mentally;
4. What about mother? The infection could have been contracted during child's birth from mother, but did not manifest until now.

Just a few thoughts.
(I did not watch the video, can't do it from where I am now, will watch it later)

Ok, I watched the video.
A lot of drama as always from the media.
It is still not clear if the child does in fact have herpes.
His symptoms are common to many simple infections.
Everything reported is based on grandmother's statement.
I am not saying that hotel room was clean and that the child didn't find a condom.
Maybe he did, maybe he didn't. We'll never know.
But if the child does test positive for herpes and/or other STDs I'll again say that things don't add up.

And yes, some parents use their children "like that". Unfortunately.

Kids put everything in their mouth. Herpes can pass that way if he got the fluid in his mouth. Its just like your run of the mill cold sore. All you need is a casual kiss to pass that. (non-sexual)

Discovery Health "Can you get herpes from water fountains or toilet seats?"

Its unlikely to get it from things, but not impossible.

I don't buy it either. There are too many other, more likely ways he could have contracted herpes.

I'm not buying it, I think the parents are to blame, and they're hoping to turn around and cash in.

Shenanigans. Herpes lasts mere minutes after leaving the human body. The child would have had to find the condom and put it in his mouth while the sperm was still warm in order to have the chance of contracting herpes.

My bet is, someone in the family abused the kid, and now the family is trying to get money from the hotel by lying about it.
