Visited a skin specialist this week and had three small 'bumps' burned off my lower leg by applying a Q-tip and silver nitrate.

Had a bite within a half hour afterwards, and had the most bitter after taste .. wondering why? Proceding that, any drink of anything, beer, coffee, water, or any type of food ingested, brings is on again. It's bile-like and really awful.
Almost enough to put you off eating altogether, .. almost

Called the doctor's office to see if possibly it's a side-effect of the silver nitrate, but one that the 20-yr receptionist wasn't aware of and the doctor wasn't in.

Spoke with a pharmacist who also hadn't heard of this being a side effect, but another I called advised she was aware of it. Kind of relieved to hear this as I was getting a little concerned at some of the maladies I was reading when researching the internet.

One thing that kept popping up however, was a description of the same bitter taste of many, after ingesting pine nuts. Reading all sorts of people's experiences, seems it doesn't seem to affect most until two or three days after eating pine nuts.

Then remembered I'd made a pasta salad with some pesto I'd been given by my sister, and had eaten it within that two or three day time period.

From all the info gleened from others, for the most part looks like it was from smaller pine nut, from China. Many stipulated they ate pine nuts all the time, and never a problem. Or that they usually bought larger pine nuts and then only the smaller ones available and then the bitter taste in the mouth. Seems most of them when they researched the source, were the smaller ones from China.

Also mentions, this terrible bitter taste can stay with you anywhere from 10 to 20 days.

So I'm not sure if it's the pine nuts, or the silver nitrate, or a combo of both that's affecting me, but whatever it is, it's VERY unpleasant.

Also read you can get this bitter taste from canned air, and the doctor opened up this huge can of silver nitrate that we were sitting about a foot away from.

I've had the silver nitrate sticks burn off something here and there before, but only one spot at a time, and this time had three spots done, so wondering if because it was more excessive if it leached into my system of not.

Anyway, just out of interest, here are a few sites and people's experiences with the pine nuts .. something I've never been aware of.

Funny enough, whenever I've looked for pine nuts in the last year, they seemed so small and dried up and old looking, that I end up not buying them. Only once in fact, and threw them away because they tasted old and rancid.

Something to be aware of when purchasing pine nuts in the future.

I have had the bitter taste from cleaning my keyboard with canned air and it was horrible for days on end and after I figured it out had to WASH it three times with soap and water with alcohol in it to get the stuff off. If there is residual of that stuff anywhere....
