CDC orders flu clinics to start early, Graves County among the first | WPSD Local 6 - News, Sports, Weather - Paducah KY | Local

This was on my local news this evening. Let the fear-mongering BEGIN!!! I love these quotes from the story:

"Having recently approved a new "universal vaccine" that battles three flu strains, including the H1N1 virus, the Centers For Disease Control is pushing health care providers to begin administering it."

"Coplen blames the H1N1 scare. Last year folks may have been too worried, this year, he says, they may not be worried enough.
Health experts are predicting a dangerous flu season."

Just like the government to play that FEAR card. The one time I got the flu shot, two months later...bam...got the flu. 99% of what the CDC says...disregard.

If isn't really the government playing the fear card.....it's worse. Every single year, whatever annual things occur, gets played up in the media as being "the busiest", "the most", "the worst", etc. Don't let it get to you because you are going to be hearing this kind of stuff for the rest of your life.

I've taken a number of flu shots over the years. Came down with the flu about 50% of the time after getting the shot. Also came down with the flu about 50% of the time in years I didn't get a shot.

I'm thinking the best bet for avoiding the flu is to live a healthy lifestyle to keep your immune system up and practice good hygiene.

They can keep their vaccine.

Yeah, here we go again. I'm not certain they ever stopped last year's campaign for the flu vaccines before this year's started.

I haven't had the flu in more than 15 yrs not a flu shot. Think I like those averages and will be skipping it again this year.

I get the flu shot every year and haven't had the flu in over 20 years. Not saying it is due to the shot but, as I have no ill-effects, why not.

OK, everyone who thinks they get/got the flu from a flu shot, please describe the symptoms you had.

FYI, all flu shots since I have been giving them contain antigen to three strains of influenza virus. This year's contains H1N1 as well as another "A" and a "B".

Maybe if they get a real dose of the flu they will have second thoughts about the efficacy of the vaccine.

I don't believe the flu shots gave me the flu. On the other hand at least in my case they haven't been all that effective at preventing it.

As far as flu symptoms; fever, head and muscle aches, chills, rapid onset of symptoms, tiredness, etc...

Correct. These are the same symptoms as those of many viral illnesses as well. Influenza is not diarrhea and vomiting, like many think it is. So if you get a flu shot, and then get a case of gastroenteritis (N & V), you did not get the flu from the shot.

Air Force made me take the flu shot every year, and every year within 2 weeks of getting the flu shot I got the flu. Retired from the military and haven't gotten the flu since.
