You can die from excessive alcohol intoxication, even without being in water. A few years ago, a friend of mine went missing, and they found her dead in a remote area. Cause of death was alcohol. BTW: She was no kid, besides her husband she left 3 kids in their late teens/early twenties.
You can drown in your own vomit. A friend of mine died that way after an evening of too much alcohol. Fell asleep on his couch face up and vomited while he was passed out. He was only 25. That was over 30 years ago. So yes, you can.

Alcohol kills in more ways than you can imagine.
Very true. Many individuals have choked or drowned in their own emesis. If at all possible, a severely intoxicated individual needs to be monitored while asleep. If this is not possible, positioning them on their side, and keeping them there with pillows or other objects might help out if they vomit, since this will keep the emesis out of their mouth and lungs.
