I heard that too, we put some stuff on there that is just like that, but made for the chigger purpose,, lol, but after a couple of days, it peeled off, and the itch came back.

Now, these things are like an open wond fomr the scratching, so I am a little afraid of the toxins in the polish.....eeek

Default helpful post of the day!

Have you tried taking one of those oatmeal baths?

My mom did that to me when I had the chickenpox growing up.... I know it's not the same as the chiggers... but it was to soothe the itch'n & wigglies.

they sell them in packages for baths..at your normal Walgreens or CVS pharmacy.

Let me find my coffee.... while this loads.
(insert 5 minute pause)
and now.. for some home remedies that others have suggested!!!

I tried the nail polish remedy and did not get any results. A family friend who is native to Texas and a ranch foreman suggested a hot bath mixed with bleach: 50%water/50% bleach. I soaked my feet for about ten minutes and it COMPLETELY took away the itch

Take a bath within two hours of being exposed. It may take several hours before they finally bite. After showering rub 5% vinegar(apple cider might be best)to soothe skin and deter any more bites. On bites dab a little tea tree oil to help prevent any infection. Plus this is irritating to the mite if its still there. Cover that with a clear calamine solution that has itch relief in it.

The kids in the area told me to take a hot soapy shower, then 'scratch'em 'til they're raw, put hairspray on them, and get ready to dance'. I don't know if the bitesgo away any faster, but it does stop the itching <--- I WANNA SEE YOU TRY THIS ONe... take lots of pictures!!!!

To smuther the chiggers and stop the itching put vics vapor rub on areas affected. The petroleom suffocates them and the methanol relieves itching. You can also mix camphor and phenol in mineral spirits, works wonders.

"Chigger Myths:
Chiggers do not bore into and live inside of our skin. Applying finger nail polish or other household chemicals to red bumps on our skin does not help. They will not burrow deep inside our body and eventually die. By the time your severe itching problem sets in, the chigger is nowhere in sight. Trying to smother a chigger with various products is a total waste of your time and might actually cause more problems.
Chiggers do not drink blood. They are red because that is their color. Chiggers drink liquefied skin cells. Ticks feed on blood; chiggers do not.

A chigger or red bug is not an adult bug. It is an immature larvae.

These pests are not insects; they are mites.

That tiny hole or red bump on your skin is not where chiggers lay eggs. A chigger is a baby, a harvest mite larvae. Only the adult harvest mite lays eggs."

Oh Robyn! I feel your pain! While I have had chiggers many many many times, I have yet to find a remedy. We have used everything from polish to kerosene (don't ask we're from the country lol). Oatmeal baths and antihistamines might be your best bet or some of fiddle's ideas. Sorry dear!
