I am sure ther are many primary ailments psycolgical or physical that manifest themselves with symptoms like fibro / muscular pain. Ultimatle you will have to treat the problem not just the sysmptom.
WOW im scared acupuncture will hurt me bad as for me my cause is a cyst that took over my neural canal dont want to touch that so cant treat the cause.

Same here, there are peaks and valleys. Unfortunately going through a period here that more hurts than doesn't, but don't rule out other things such as: osteoarthritis, etc. - I've found that some joints that hurt are showing on x-ray that they are arthritic, not sure if fibro. affects/causes it earlier, or just being a very petite person does or what...

Best you can do is keep looking until you find a doctor who knows fibro. is real and is sympathetic to it (be it a Rheumotologist, Family doc., chiro., whatever).

Arrow Just My 69 Cents Worth After a Night of NO SLEEP!

I live in MN & the most fortunate part about this - other than being near my son & grandson, is that we have some of the best health insurance & providers & specialists in this country - even available to people like me on Medicare & Medicaid.

I know my stuff & I always go to the best of the best.

First thing that those of us with either chronic pain issues or mental health issues need to do is quit looking for validation from others or being offended when we don’t get it.

I go to a leading Rheumatologist who only within the last year informed me that for MANY years, up until not all that long ago, EVERYONE with a certain set of symptoms that couldn’t be explained in any common / obvious ways were being diagnosed with FM when… as it turned out, a vast majority of people were severely deficient in Vitamin D. Cure the Vitamin D issue in those folks & viola - no more FM. She said in her own words that they were simply too narrow focused & too inundated with all of it to take a few steps back & ask some basic medical questions of themselves as to what may be going on - other than FM.

Another thing is that a diagnosis of FM is really an elimination of any other known possibility that your doctor can think of. That’s just how it is at this point. Do most doctors, even the really good ones, believe that FM has a large component of psychological issues behind it? I truly think so & frankly, so do I. (** see next: ** - as the following two paragraphs were added after review)

I also have IBS - guess what that is? A complete elimination of all other known possibilities - if you have good physicians and/or do your own research to know what tests to get. I call it: Neurotic Bowel Syndrome - I need the laugh. Fibro AND IBS - come on now - both are connected in a number of ways, I believe, but especially in that, those of us with these diagnoses have brains that are hard-wired to be hyper-vigilent/hyper-sensitive to everything around us (and everything we ingest). We need to retrain ourselves (like with alternative therapies such as bio-feedback) to be desensitized to all the stimuli.

Does this suck that it seems like rather than being born with a hand malformed (not that this would be great - just making a point) - where it clearly cannot be “blamed” on us in any way for having a malformed hand - what is being said is that we are the ones in control of all of it? AT TIMES: YES! But, the grace & greatness in it is that WE ARE IN CONTROL TO A GREAT DEGREE & we are NOT powerless to this.

** One cannot confuse this statement with it not being real. For instance, I have a friend who has what she calls: “Non-Epileptic Seizures” & what physicians call “Pseudo-Seizures”. What does this mean? She has seizures that have NO KNOWN physical / physiological cause and are believed to be caused by something psychological, AKA, “all in her head”. Are the seizures real? YES! Do they debilitate her? YES! But, they are more a mental health issue and anything else secondary.

I believe that many mental health issues cause physical health issues - even chronic, severe, debilitating pain - in some instances. Does this make the physical issues any less real? NO! It merely means, thankfully, that perhaps the individual does not have, say, Rheumatoid Arthritis - therefore if they are able to address the actual diagnoses they do have that are causing the RA symptoms - they CAN be cured of that devastating pain AND the pain of the mental health issue as well.

I say all of this as one who has a litany of diagnoses - many of which are “auto-immune” - my body attacking itself… My name for this: Medical Suicide. I am not a suicidal person - not in the least. But, I do battle multiple layers of health issues: Neurological, Psychological, Rheumatological, Auto-Immune, & various other medical deficiencies & diagnoses. The mind is a powerful tool. Sometimes the battle wears you down & so can trauma - something I’ve endured a great deal of… I very much believe that I have a hyper-sensitive “system” in general - even on a spiritual level.

I carry deep wounds that I’m not even in touch with & I’m a darn self-aware chica lemme tell you. I believe that deep emotional wounds, experienced by a hyper-sensitive system can be experienced as “trauma” & then manifest themselves in a variety of ways in an attempt to be released so we can be made healthy & whole. I believe “Auto-immune” is just a safe term for trauma, wounds, pain, suffering that, rather than being unleashed upon the world around us - is imploding within us. We are killing ourselves by medical means.

Working on ME is a full-time job now when I once was a thriving professional fulling contributing to the world around me. Now my life is a small microcosm of what it once was & of what it still is meant to be. I am not doing any of this destructive stuff intentionally - but subconsciously at a deep enough level that I haven’t begun to be able to tap into it.

I am working diligently, INTENTIONALLY on “health, wholeness, & happiness”!

If my system is turning on itself without my conscious permission - I am dayum sure not giving up without a fight - which is why I speak this to myself every single day, morning & night:

In the mirror, every morning & every evening, I look at myself & speak boldly:

“I WANT TO LIVE A LONG, FULL, HEALTHFUL, HAPPY, PROSPEROUS LIFE. I WANT TO LIVE AND LIVE ABUNDANTLY. Amen. Amin. and Ashe!”

I say this all with the utmost of respect & more than empathy - I KNOW - I KNOW!

Love love… The Thinky Think.R

Default Finding the Right Diagnosis

I would wonder whether you really have Fibromyalgia or another condition. I agree with a previous post that Fibromyalgia is a diagnosis of exclusion. In other words, everything else has been ruled out. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (also called Chronic Fatigue Immune Deficiency Syndrome and Myalgic Encephalitis) has many overlapping symptoms with Fibromyalgia. Unfortunately, many doctors are not familiar with how to diagnose and treat CFS. I encourage you to look up Myalgic Encephalitis online. I'm sure there are other doctors that are familiar with it, Moderator cut: need at least 10 other posts to make specific recommendationsBest of luck to you. You are not alone.

I have almost the opposite problems with doctors. They accidently found a disease in a chest x-ray done as a new patient. Nodules on both lungs. Well it is called sarcoidosis in the lungs. I have no symptoms but they (doctors) are pushing steroids on me. I am not taking them. I sure hope I stay without symptoms. They say that people who have this disease also have fibro.
