I can't say that I have anything like your reaction. I have always felt that it did nothing as far as stimulation goes. I can drink 4-5 cups and go right to sleep if I want.
I have come to realize that I only drink coffee in social settings and I usually feel very relaxed at those times. The few times I have indulged in coffee outside of those times I have felt a warm cozy feeling as if I had just eaten some type of comfort food, perhaps a bit of relaxation occurs, but nothing that makes me tired or hungry in relation to coffee.

There is nothing better than opening a thermous of coffee at six A M after the blind is set up and you're all settled in.
have you considered switching to a different caffeine source?
I like the caffeine in the morning but after that it's the smell and holding and sipping. That whole thing. Like a smoker that keeps the cigarette in the ashtray but barely touches it.

Almost afraid to say it, but I can only drink decaf anymore. Per Dr's orders. Used to drink 5-6 cups a day many years ago. Don't drink that much coffee at all. Maybe 1-2 cups a week anymore. Not enough to even consider drinking coffee, is it?
But, I cannot walk past a coffee store in a mall without stopping. I love the aroma.
I had to give up coffee, also because of doctor's advice. I still enjoy the smell of coffee, but the interactions of caffeine with my medications (high blood pressure, erratic heartbeat) have disappeared...
Had a wicked headache when I quit drinking it , though...it really is an addiction....
I love coffee only with Irish Creme in it, but since that is so fattening I don't even drink coffee.
