I'm finding that after I lie down, if I get up too quickly, I feel dizzy and have to stop and kneel down, or hold the door frame for a few seconds. I thought this might be vertigo but I went and looked at the symptoms, and it seems that this event, is not vertigo. What is it?

Orthostatic hypotension.
Get up more slowly. Give your blood-pressure time to regulate before you try to walk. Drink more water.

So, now that every single person who responded to your OP has suggested that your blood pressure might be an issue, have you considered getting your blood pressure checked? We're all just guessing. For all we know, you could be dying of multiple aneurisms. Only a qualified medical practitioner will know for sure, and only if that practitioner sees you, in person. Not on the internet.

Need to do lying and standing BP and OP doesn't say if he's already on medication for high BP, which would be useful to know
I have chronically low BP- around 110/55, but last Summer after working in the yard in the heat I went to Docs for a routine appt and it was 70/40!
No wonder I 'd been feeling dizzy after bending down whilst gardening.
I will drink gallons of water this year (I did last year, but clearly need to try more) and then will have to keep stopping to visit the loo!
