Every high school classroom holds a few slack-jawed students. One British teen, however, unintentionally took the term to a new level.
Holly Thompson, 17, of Kingsthorpe, Northampton, was in the middle of a particularly enthralling class on politics when she reacted to the subject matter like many other students would -- she yawned.
Oh man that sucks. That's happened to me a few times. I had really severe TMJ syndrome and sometimes my jaw would lock open or closed. Must have been especially embarrassing in class.
I got my mouth stuck open before. It was a spring night, and I had a fan on, and something came off the fan in the middle of the night and made a horrible noise. It woke me up and I started screaming my head off, and somehow my jaw locked open and then I started to panic because of that, and trying to force my mouth shut. Of course that didn't work, all I did was hurt myself in the process. After I calmed down, I was able to close my mouth, but my jaw was like really sore and then I could not open my mouth very wide for probably a week. I talked to a nurse about it, she said it sounded like TMJ and I should have it checked out. I never did, it just kind of got better on its own.
