My tissues near my base of my thumb are swollen. I think it is from overusing of the fingers. Which is better to use? Cold compress or Hot compress? Thanks.

Ice reduces swelling and heat increases it. Heat is good for relaxing muscle spasms ofter the initial swelling of an injury has gone down.

Heat dilates blood vessels and can cause increased swelling. Ice it.

Add some ibuprofen too, or aspirin....meds and ice=relief....

if it continues, see your MD...a cortisone injection might be indicated...
