Nonprofit group says consumers should view the popular summer food as a health risk on par with cigarettes.

We all know the damage that cigarettes can cause to our health, but should hot dogs be given the same cold shoulder? According to the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a nonprofit that advocates for a plant-based diet and preventative medicine, that answer is yes — and this is but one of many processed foods that are slowly killing us.

Should hot dogs come with a warning label? | MNN - Mother Nature Network

Hot dogs on par with cigarettes? I don't think so. They aren't the healthiest foodstuff going, but tobacco products are decidedly worse.

Everything should come with a warning label.
Perhaps audio clips should be added to packages for people who won't read the labels even if they contain all the information and warnings

Cigarette-packs feature increasingly large and pictorally graphic warning labels, but for all the good these warnings do they might as well be pictures of Hello Kitty or Pokemon. I may not have genius IQ, but I know enough to stay away from tobacco. That we even invented the cigarette is proof positive that the human being is not rational or intelligent.

I think all processed meats should contain warning labels that they contain nitrates which have been linked to colon cancer. This includes products labeled as "nitrate free*" or "no nitrates added*" as the asterisk states they actually are produced with nitrates from celery powder which is just as bad as it is from any other source.

An interesting question is Who 'invented' them?
THE TOBACCO TIMELINE
"470-630 CE: Between 470 and 630 A.D. the Mayas began to scatter, some moving as far as the Mississippi Valley. The Toltecs, who created the mighty Aztec Empire, borrowed the smoking custom from the Mayas who remained behind. Two castes of smokers emerged among them."

Apples and Oranges...Tobacco and Hot Dogs are in different categories. There is no disputing that they are both bad for you...but I think that there is no contest as to which one is much more serious and more likely to create a long-term addiction. I don't know anyone addicted to Hot Dogs...just saying.

I think people should be more aware of what is in the food they eat, but putting a warning label on certain foods is a rather silly idea. Why stop with hot dogs? Why not candy bars, high sugar cereals, soda pop, or whatever?

Perhaps we sould label carrots and spinach as they contain nitrates too.

Take enough vitamin c and molybdenum so the the nitrates don't turn into nitrosamines and possibly cause colon cancer.
