I'll bet if someone came on here and said, "Hey! I can see the future!" you'd laugh him off...but you're doing the same thing. If the seer who claims he can see 10 or 20 or 30 years down the road is a screwball, y'all are too.

What a bunch of sissies. To afraid of dying to enjoy life!

You're proof that fat people aren't too smart and will use any excuse to destroy themselves because of lack of willpower. Their fav excuse is "Oh I can't control my future so let me just destroy myself now".

Have you ever noticed that you rarely see very obese people over the age of 65? Could it be that they all died in their 50's after suffering for years?? Suck on that thought for a moment while you eat your pizza and ice cream. And enjoy your 24/7 joint pain when you're in your 40's.

Sorry. I've already missed that by more than 20 years and I feel great. How about you?

The real culprit is portion sizes. Too many people fill their plates and eat til they are full, taking seconds if necessary to reach the point where they can't take another bite. It doesn't matter if your food is nutritious or not---if you just don't know how to get up and walk away from the table, you have already lost the weight battle.

There is simply no excuse, ever, for going to an all-you-can-eat buffet and trying to get your money's worth.

Your take on what constitutes enjoying life is idiotic. People with healthy lifestyles can enjoy a cold beer, too. They just don't have more than two in a day. People with healthy lifestyles can enjoy some cheesecake too. They just don't do it every day and they don't OD on it. You think waddling instead of walking constitutes enjoying life? Be my guest! And smoking? Of course satisfying an addiction is enjoyable - no one questions that. But is the morning cough enjoyable? The reduced lung capacity? Somebody has really pushed your buttons. Methinks thou dost protest too much.

I haven;t heard that excuse before and me and my entire family is obese/overweight. Why is it that people like you think all of us think the same way? We are individuals.

There are plenty of people in my family and family friends who are over 65 and are obese. Where have you been? lol They are plenty of obese senior citizens 65+.A know plenty of "fit" people who always complain about joint pain. As we get older our bodies aren't as useful as they were in the past and this is fact.

Your claims are not based in reality.
It has been shown that being somewhat overweight does not alter ones health in a significant way.

We went on vacation recently to the midwest area. We very quickly noticed the abundance of obese people. The worst was when we went into a buffet restaurant one day for lunch. Now, typically I would not go to a buffet, but after about as many Subway sandwiches as we could stand, we thought we could get the kids some veggies, salads, and noodles for something half way healthy. Well, we were appalled by the size of the clientele who obviously belly up to this buffet for all you can eat on a regular basis. I went for a run the next morning through a residential area and was looked at like some freak! Is this the U.S. standard? Is this what we have come to? I have always lived in cities where this is not typical, so when I travel in the States outside of large urban areas, I am reminded how bad it is out there.
Last night I had the television on and I saw a commercial for a breakfast restaurant advertising all you can eat pancakes with this fat guy sitting there shoveling them down. No wonder this country is in a serious health crisis and it is apalling. Can this ever be turned around or it too late? I find it very sad.
Obesity is here to stay and is growing. Sometimes you have to just accept things the way they are. We don;t need you to approve of what we eat and don't eat and vice versa. There are big people who live in urban areas as well.

The only way to turn it around is to persuade the younger people to eat healthy and exercise regularly. I am currently trying to lose weight, and I hate doing both. I have lost a few pounds and I still feel the same way I did when I was my heaviest and when I was my lightest. It can be hard for people to loose weight and keep the commitment. My several attempts of me losing weight all resulted in me gaining the weight back.

Default Comparisons with other times and other places

When I was a child growing up in the 1950's it was rare, very rare, to see obese people. In many countries, that is still the case. The human gene pool has not changed since I was a child. It is absurd to pretend that overweight and obesity is not a problem. People who talk about how amazing the problem is (and it is truly amazing for those of us who did not grow up with it as the norm) are labeled as arrogant, judgmental, etc., which is b.s. in its most pure form. Is nothing in life disgusting? If we see something disgusting and call it that, is that being judgmental and arrogant? If we see a homeless person pull down his pants and defecate in front of children in a park, is that not disgusting? Of course it is, and why would we hesitate to call it that? We may have sympathy for the homeless person, but the behavior remains disgusting. If we see an obese person struggling to get up a flight of stairs, we will feel sympathy for that person, but it is still disgusting. No amount of politically correct b.s. will change that. To witness a human body deformed to that extent is scary and disgusting, period. Of course it is inexcusable to make fun of the obese, or to fail to recognize their various talents and their humanity as individuals. But their bodies are disgusting, and that will remain true forever - it is an eternal truth.

I don't think obesity is a problem, if people want to be overweight then let them. Even more ridiculous is the people claiming obesity is a disease. Who cares about people in countries? Of course places in Africa, the Middle East, and other poor nations are "fit" because they do not even eat.

Now you are calling fat people disgusting... Ask my boyfriend if he thinks my body is disgusting.. Go up to a fat person and tell them you think they are disgusting and deformed. I think I look prettier and friendlier when I am fat. No one says that men taking steriods to enchace their bodies is disgusting. We don't call overly skinny people disgusting.

That, plus taking in significantly more calories than one intends to burn.

(I mean, if we're talking about the kind of obese people who sit around eating all day on disability and NOT overweight people who are actively trying to improve their health...or even perfectly content w/ the way they are)

Our abilities to both gain and lose weight are mainly attributed to our DNA though.

This is a really interesting program about how naturally skinny people are physically unnable to get fat. It was an overreating experiement.
