This idiotic thread has made me hungry.

"Burp."

Honey, pass me the Tums. Better yet, hand me the shotgun. There's a skinny little busy-body in the street pointing at my beer belly.

Seems that obesity is higher in rural areas and smaller towns and cities while lower in urban and suburban areas of major metros. If you were to overlay a political map, it would show "red state" places as more obese than "blue" ones. My state, Virginia, is a Southern state that has relatively low obesity rates, presumably because most of its population in urban and suburban areas of larger metros (DC, Richmond, and VA Beach). We also have a large number of physically fit military folks.

But besides this, it was recommended that for those who have a lot of weight to lose, you need to do it very slowly so your body accepts what is happening, or else it will demand more food thinking that it is not at its appropropriate weight.... amazing..
I thought it was pretty mindblowing, I learned alot from that video!

[That must be where I learned to be so snobby!] So you see, it is not just "flyover country" to me. Guess I have a right to talk about it, don't I? Not looking down my nose at myself and ALL of my family [none of whom are obese] Yes, Pa has almost as many obese people as South Dakota. They just do not live where I live. Or maybe it's because I do not frequent all you can eat buffets when I am not on vacation. It is actually irrelevant. The point is, the country as a whole is headed farther into a health crisis. I just happened to be strangely shocked when I RETURNED to the midwest to see a large percentage of obese people that I do not ordinarily see in my NEW environment on a daily basis.
It doesn't change the tone of your initial post and we get that A LOT around these forums so perhaps we are sensitive. For example, living in KS we have to do a lot of explaining about Fred Phelps to people too lazy to google.

Your age may explain your insulation if you live in a retirement community a lot of the more obese types quite frankly have likely passed away at younger ages.

So have a lot of "healthy" types.

The bottom line is that your future, including your health and cause of death, is in God's hands.

There's an old saying which I think is apropo's to this thread: "Ya wanna make God laugh? Tell Him what your plans are!"

I can't believe the Axis of Evil hasn't graced this thread with its presence

Anyway, in the absence of our ringleader Lao, let me chime in

Fatties don't abound in just buffets, they abound in the office too. Whenever there is pizza day or bagel mornings, they disappear in seconds. And this is the best of the best of the best - the other days, they will be seen micro-waving their lean cuisine trays or whatever. The office is where one witnesses their one million idiosyncrasies.

Well, apparently, I can tell the lean cuisine is not doing its job. I've been seeing these characters for months now and they look just the same. Eat all you want, but at least don't make a fuss about all that lean cuisine tray pantomime with a lot of calorie count and weight watcher chatter and then, at every chance, finish off cakes, bagels and pizzas in the pantry. Everybody knows it doesn't work that way.

I am guilty of eating too much too. Sometimes way too much. But I do enough activities to stave it off.

I have written a few parodies and skits on the office drama centering around employee weight watchers programs and the gym, and eating healthy and such. I float them around and it was such a riot among other people who feel pretty much the same

It's in my office network and I need to get a way to take it out of there without alerting the security buggers.

Actual recalling of a conversation with a co-worker one fine morning, all names faked, except mine:

"Patrick, the team and I thought we could go out grab some breakfast"

"Where are you guys going?"

"The diner"

"I'm not coming, man"

"Why?"

"It's not healthy. I need to cut my weight, man. The doctor said I need to stop red meat"

"Pat, nobody eats red meat for breakfast"

"Well, I used to"

"Well, then don't take it for breakfast, you can come grab some breakfast items"

"No, no, no, I'm sorry, but I really need to control myself"

"Pat, I am not sure if they even serve red meat for breakfast"

"They will serve bacon, I'm sure"

"Then, don't buy bacon"

"Is bacon really red meat?", Pat asks the second team mate watching this. "Coz I can use some bacon now". Patrick grins.

"I am not sure, what do you think Antlers"

"Well, bacon is red, but is red meat generally red?"

"Good question?" says, John, the second guy.

Patrick is perturbed. "You know what fellas, you go ahead, I think I might make some wise decisions"

We all come back and we see Patrick munching almonds and planters peanuts at the same time
