i have a habit of taking 2 doses of generic metamucil every night before going to bed. i generally do this several times per week because i believe i may be constipated (when i probably am not). in a way i believe it helps maintain regularity

however i also have obstructive sleep apnea, and when i have attacks there is often an acid reflux that can be quite uncomfortable, sometimes making me use mouthwash until it subsides

i take sufficient water with the metamucil to avoid choking but it seems to feel like i am choking anyway

tho the directions call for 1 tsp in 8 oz water, i take 2 tsp in 16 oz of water, doubling the dose

last night out of nowhere i woke up and simply emitted fluid onto the bed pillow. i wasn't nauseous or ill, it just came out of nowhere

should i cut down on the dose or cut back on the frequency?

have i developed a laxative addiction without even realizing it?

If you have OSA, I hope you use a CPAP. Something like Prilosec is better for acid reflux (GERD).

No way you should be using that much Metamucil. Have you got a sweet tooth?

Ditch the Metamucil and eat a Rice Krispey Treat every day. You'll be the most regular person on the block.

I meant "have you got a sweet tooth (?) how about a Rice Krispey treat (?)" because they have fiber.

You should NOT be needing a daily dose of metamucil.

If there are times you really do need metamucil, try taking it earlier in the evening. Lying down makes acid reflux worse, so let the metamucil "settle" first.

This

Don't eat/drink anything before going to sleep for at least 3/5 hours.

^^ That's too much fluid in your stomach before bed. Take the fiber every day if you feel that you need to but, don't double the dose and take it earlier in the day.

I've tried it all over the years, and the acid reflux just continued to get worse, so i finally gave up on home remedies and over the counter stuff, and now take one tiny tecta tablet every morning....Problem solved.
