I was on Accutane after suffering with acne for 25 years. I couldn't complete the course though. My liver tests came back bad mid use. That said, it did a great job of curing it for about 5 years. I'd go back on in a heartbeat if they would let me.

However I had already had my children at that point. I would not use it as a female unless I did. Too many reproductive side effects.

My acne is back but not as bad as it was. I have resigned my self to living with it.

I did as a teen but only to the big pimples, not all over. I don't know that I would do that simply for how dry my face would get.

I've been in your shoes and get that you will try anything. Try it. If you don't like it, you can stop. What's it really going to hurt.

I suggested it to her but she just said it would dry out her skin..
She also added that she's tried every over the counter medication there is and nothing works..

Does this acne ever go away?
My son had severe acne. He went to a Dermatologist and did a six month course of Acutane. Now his skin is perfect. Your daughter will become a new person after being treated with that drug.

Absolutely no increase in depression or suicide attempts among Accutane users when compared to a contol group. Your daughter had issues before the Accutane.

Waste of money. The active ingredient in Pro-Active can be bought on a store shelf for a 5th of the cost.

Seeing a dermatologist would be my suggestion. They are the skin experts.

I just saw there's a new prescription drug out there called Epiduo. It's a combination of differin and benzoyl peroxide. I saw it on a commercial last night.

One of my kids used Differin and it does work but like anything else, it takes time. You will break out but clear up beautifully.

BTW, if you remove oil from the pores, then there's no medium for the bacteria and dead skin cells to stew in a create an infection. It's sorta like how bacteria breeds in stagnant water. If the water isn't there, the bacteria don't have a confined area to rapidly reproduce in.

Try salycilic acid, I like the Paula's choice products, or a prescription retinoid.
