My husband went to the doctor with an achy arm to find out he had blisters on his wrist and it was shingles. He cannot sleep even with alleve, he is so uncomfortable. Any suggestions for it to be quicker than 8 weeks or for the pain? He refuses so far to take the narcotics (oxycodone) that they gave him. please help.
All I can say is I am so "sorry"!! This has to be one of the most painful things a person goes through. My husband went through this a few years ago. He had very little sleep and did a lot of pacing in our den as he could not even sit down without pain. There is even a web site for support for those who must take care of a person with shingles. It's very hard for all involved. To be honest---only "time" helps. And when it's done rearing it's ugly head it's gone. My husband tried the pain killers but found them to be pretty much useless. He instead found a glass of scotch was about the only relief he could get---and that still wasn't much. It took my husband 6 weeks of misery and then it was just gone one day. He couldn't even wear a shirt, could not sit or lie down without pain. There are many remedies online that I, out of desperation, researched a lot. I can't say they work and I have my doubts, but a person gets to the point where they will try anything. You may want to check these things out online. I did order one type of the pills offered but my husband refused to take them so that was $175.00 dollars wasted. Good luck and just stand by your husbands side---he will need you. Be patient as they get angry and very tired. Be strong for you both as he will lose strength because of the time invovled and lack of sleep. It does end and he will get better.
My mother (89) is just getting over a bad case of shingles, the doctor gave her some very expensive medicine which helped. She also used Benadrel cream for the itching. it's been almost three months and they still bother her some, but she had huge places on her back.
I had shingles at only 30 years old. It is so painful and you just feel like s**t in general! I have scars on my side from it. The pain started a full week before any blisters appeared.
He should ask his doctor about Valtrex. I heard this will shorten the time and ease the severety of it.
Yes, I can tell you how to relieve much of the suffering. I had a friend that had shingles really bad, that is, her husband did. I told her that I have always wondered how Tabasco Sauce on the area would help shingles. So, he tried it, and he was much relieved. He even went to his doctor and told him about Tabasco Sauce and shingles. Have him try it for two days to see how he feels.
It is exactly the capasicin, but I have used the capasicin cream on other things and nothing works like good old Tabasco Sauce. I guess it has more to do with it being natural.
