Any bad side effects with singulair for you or your kids.???

I know its not a "Long Island" question, but I need some data on who in here has a child that has asthma or allergies and whether they use singulair or not. My child is nine and has had to come home about 10 times with excessive cough from school. My doctor prescribed singulair but was afraid of the numerous reports of mood changes and even suicidal thoughts by children who take this. Thanks for your feedback.

My daughter was on it back when she was in the 4th grade for asthma (which she has since outgrown). She's now 19 and there've never been any adverse affects.

I was on it when I was younger and have no issues today.

Myself and my 17 yr old daughter are on Singulair. There are no side effects but I have found it to best if I don't take it in the summer months. It works so well for asthma in winter and I found for me it loses it's full effect if I took it all year.

One has to realize that every single medicine we take have potential side affects. You have to weigh the pros and cons. Asthma is dangerous and I would definitely opt for the treatments available.

At minimum I would go for a second opinion before putting my kid on meds. Are they sure it's even asthma?

She definately has an asthma component and an allergic component. The singulair was ordered for the purpose of helping with the chronic runny nose and gym induced coughing in school but I have been hesitant with the nasty side effects i see in the blogs concerning singulair. She's already on flovent (inhaled steroid) and an assortment of OTC's. I hate giving her all this crap but its affecting her school attendance.
