That is one I never heard of. Yes, please do send me info about it. Am willing to try anything at this point. Its ridiculous. My mother is 101 and in excellent health. What did I do wrong???
An article about Kratom: Substance called 'Kratom' becoming a growing problem
and also this: Erowid Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) Vault : A Study of Kratom Eaters in Thailand

It doesn't sound like something I would want to take.

^Human nature at work!^ Focus on the negative. Trust the media because they ALWAYS tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth..

Like anything else, kratom CAN be abused, OR it can also be used wisely. Like thousands of others, I've used it almost daily for more than 2 years. Not only have I not experienced any problems, but I've also recieved many wonderful benefits. I'm sleeping MUCH better now. I rarely ever use Ibuprophen or other such poisons. And my mood is greatly improved.

One night she vomited blood all night long (and nobody came in to check on her.) By the time she was rushed to the ER, her blood pressure was 50/35. Somehow, she survived and they found a bleeding duodenal ulcer. They did not expect her to survive the surgery the next day, but she did. She was in the hospital for 5 weeks dealing with the ramifications of the bleeding ulcer. We cannot know for sure the NSAIDS were the culprit, but she had been taking them 3-4 times per day for at least 10 years. She is now in a nursing home with a colostomy (she had more complications a few weeks after the ulcer surgery.) She will never leave the nursing home. While she is elderly (83,) she had been living independently prior to the intestinal blockage, ulcer and other complications last year.

I now only take NSAIDS a few times a week for arthritis pain.
Wow, I am sorry your Mom had to go thru that. I guess I am lucky that my ulcer/esophogas problems were caught early. I feel good but am having another endo in Dec. just to check the status. Its kinda like the breast cancer I found, early. Lucky to catch stuff when it starts. Unlucky to have it occur at all. Best to you and your mom...

Tylenol is like candy, yet it will destroy your liver.

We cant win!
Yes, I agree totally. Why isn't there some help for us arthritis sufferers who need some type of relief? There are lots of other drugs for everything else under the sun (Cialis) but not arthritis !!!

Well, I now have an ulcer and esophogitis inflammation and have endured 3 endoscopies in the last year. I had to switch to Tylenol but one of my docs saw my MRI and offered Percoset. I turned it down. I am truly not happy with Tylenol but don't want to become an addict. Pain is not fun, folks. But if anyone has been taking advil like I was, watch out. It could be harming your insides.
There have been some extraordinary results with Apple Cider Vinegar (organic, unpasturized, unfiltered), and arthritis. You might want to do some online research and evaluate the information for yourself. I know that if I were thus stricken, I would try ACV first before resorting to pain killers.

In the event that I absolutely, positively could not find a holistic, natural treatment, I wouldn't take anything except aspirin. It is the only medicine I take.

OP said in her first post that she didn't want something that would get her addicted, from what I read, kratom is not suitable for daily usage because people get addicted to it if they take it that regularly. Occasional, recreational usage is probably fine, but with the health problems she described, she needs something she can take daily.

I'm glad you're not experiencing any problems, but have you stopped taking the kratom to see how you feel? When I broke my leg, my doc put me on vicodin and it made me feel great while I was taking it, I would have said I had no problems and besides helping with the leg pain, it made my migraines and my fibromyalgia so much better I was like a new person. I was less stressed, I could sleep all night, I didn't have to take any of my usual herbal meds. It was only when I quit taking it and went through withdrawal symtoms that I realized it hadn't been that great for me after all.

I do take 1000 mg ibuprofen, PRN, have not had any ill effects, have been doing this for at least 20 years, so far, so good. When Hurricanes come through, I have to take heavier stuff. osteoarthritis, a souvenir of a seriously mis-spent youth.

I can understand that you would form such an opinion based on what you read. BUT, based on my own experience, I can assure you that what you read is only one side of the story...a half truth at best. And I wouldn't be at all surprised if the author has never even used kratom personally, whereas I've used BOTH Ibuprophen and kratom. In my body, kratom is far more compatible than Ibuprophen.
I'm glad you're not experiencing any problems, but have you stopped taking the kratom to see how you feel?
Yes I have. As a precaution, and for my own peace of mind I take frequent breaks of 10 days or longer. The only things I've experienced during the breaks is that the achiness in my hips and back is more apparent, I don't sleep nearly as well, and I return to my habitually grumpy state of mind. Admittedly I prefer the way I feel when I'm using a little bit of kratom....so perhaps I am addicted. If that is the case, it is an addiction that I can live with. I'd rather be addicted to something benign like kratom than to be addicted to Ibuprophen and it's nasty cousins, or to have an addiction to coffee and/or alcohol. Or worse yet...an addiction to a toxic and expensive pharmaceutical that requires a prescription from a doctor. But that's my preference. To each, his or her own! I believe that each one of us follows the path that makes the most sense to us.

Even though this seems like an extremely dangerous strategy to me, this is a great example of following the path that makes the most sense...to that person.

Exactly! I actually tried a lower dose of Ibruprofen and my ulcers still returned. I have no tried Apple cider though, well for colds I have, never on a regular basis for arthritis-I will try that. Someone mentioned Asprin, but that too flares up my ulcers.

Anybody take mobic? If so, does it help? What are the side effects for you?

True!

People need to be VERY careful of ALL over-the-counter medications, and if they do take them - take them only in the doses needed, and NO more than is listed on the bottle. And NO longer amount of time. These are biggies.

I now stay away from OTC meds. If you take any meds at all, you need to see a doc regularly, becuz of the side effects. Hopefully they will be found before they've caused anything too serious.

I have severe osteoarthritis in both knees - to the point where i'll be getting knee replacements after age 60. The pain has always been debilitating. I've tried everything (prescription) from my doctors. I am finally on Vicodin, and i dont 'feel' addicted, or out-of-it. I only take 2-3 a day, and have not had the need to increase it in over a year (prescription says 4/day). I can finally get up out of my chair and do my wash, cook something, fill the bird feeders, and move around like i am alive.

This gives me no upset stomach or stomach disorders - like Naproxin and others did. The point i was at - i would have smoked weed to relieve the pain.

I also take a bit of sour cherry juice everyday, and have tried 100% Mangosteen juice in the past - with mixed results. These help with inflammation.

(I should add that i have had:
physical therapy
water therapy
Synvisc shots
many Cortisone shots
took Celebrex
took Naproxin (I think that's the name)
took Glucosamine Chondrodine... i see two specialists)
