I have these same feelings. They only seem to happen when I have been worrying about something. I wake up feeling as if i am still in a dream and everything around me seems unreal. I tend to grab parts of my body to see if i am alive because it scares me so bad that I think I am dead.

Do you have anxiety? Maybe you are having panic attacks?

It sounds like you are having anxiety attacks in your sleep. I started having them recently (hopefully due to a hormonal imbalance) and it is very disconcerting. Sometimes I do wake up and my heart is racing. I just have to remind myself that everything will be okay, do some deep breathing, maybe get up and get out of bed. I also notice that if I watch a stressful television show or movie right before bed. It is more likely that I will wake up with these feelings, while watching something light that will get my mind off the anxiety will help a lot.

FWIW, I also have reflux, so I am not sure if that also contributes. Sometimes I wake up gasping for air due to the reflux.
