I've got a bum knee and need to go get it checked out..but I'm a big chicken..
Anyhow, I was reading about a new knee replacement technique that's done partially by a robotic arm that matches your old knee and that's less invasive than full knee replacement.
Anyone had that done yet? It's been developed a company called Mako Surgical and orthopedic doctors and hospitals are beginning to use this new technique...called something like Makoplasty. My nearby hospital was telling me about it...curious if you or someone you know has had this done?
New technology is amazing, but if you are interested in it, you do not want to be one of the first few cases the doctor does with it. I would make sure the surgeon has plenty of experience and is willing to share his personal complication rate.
Also, you want to know the overall complication rate. It may take thousands of procedures for problems to become apparent, and complications with things like artificial joints seem to be all too common.
