A Florida man is recovering at a local burn center after suffering severe injuries from an electric cigarette that exploded in his mouth.

Tom Holloway, 57, of Niceville, Fla., was smoking the e-cigarette Monday night when his wife heard an explosion from their study. She reportedly said it sounded like a firecracker had exploded in the house and she heard him scream, one of Holloway's neighbors told ABC News affiliate WCTI.

Well give up your laptop and your rechargeable toothbrush, not to mention how many other products are handheld with battery power. You take a risk to your life everyday that you get out and live it! You are so quick to make recommendations without putting much thought into the real effect on you and the public. Not too smart!

I've smoked an ecig for 17 months now without negative incident and I don't intend to quit because of this man's unfortunate accident. All smokers took a risk when they started smoking manufactured cigarettes, I don't see the risk of ecigs any differently except that ecigs don't contain the thousands of chemicals that were pushed on smokers by manufactured cigarettes mostly without their knowledge. We know what is in the liquid we use and we've decided to take the risk. Leave us alone!

myrc60......I was joking! I have an e-cig too!

What got me about the article was that a BATTERY exploded.......and what does the article go on to vilify? The e-cig!

To me, the moral of the story was: rechargable lithium batteries can EXPLODE!

Does it make any difference if it is in an e-cig or a toothbrush?

If you are going to ban something.....shouldn't it be the BATTERIES? LMAO

If a battery in a toothbrush had exploded......would they have written an article on the evils of electric toothbrushes? NO!

Another prime example of the rabid hatred put upon smokers.....even when they are smoking something that produces NO smoke.

Thanks Annie53, I see! Before we know it though everything will need to be banned because something did something to someone! Cars, toothbrushes, eating, fast food, alcohol, cigs, guns...Moderator cut: off topic, take it to Politics
