I just tried this. Telling a friend my ears have been itching me a lot past few days thought maybe they were dry do to the fact its been VERY hot here in the Tahoe desert.
my friend who is a Physician's Assistant said to pour a half a cap of peroxide in each ear. You hear all this smack crackle POP then you dry the with a q tip.......wow it was like a Ear SPA
has anyone tried this or other products to clean and lubricate itchy ears?
Has anyone had their ears professionally drained? My friends son had it done a few yrs ago and said it was intense they show you what is removed wax bugs etc. You hear way better.
My ENT says to never use q-tips. He said to use a little olive oil before swimming and if my ears itched. Like a drop from an eyedropper. I've used hydrogen peroxide and heard the snap crackle pop.
My ENT has had to clean my ears once or twice, feels funny but I did hear better.

I have to use q-tips...... My ears tickle or have muck in them aka dirt, wax dry skin. but I willl try the olive oil.

When I was about 14 my doctor attempted to clean my ear with a rod that had a scoop on the end, that thing hurt like heck and I couldn't stand it. So, then she pulls out a dental waterpik and tells me to lean over the sink . She filled it with warm water and peroxide and started flushing my ears out. Believe it or not it worked pretty good.

the second procedure sounds like a ear spa bath..... I want that done... IDK whats with me but i just like stuff like this I get this vibe that its dirty of years of stuff that can't exit. if that makes sense. A bit off topic but close to home. I had colonic once and liked it but then found out its a waste no pun intended of $100 when you can detox other ways. They made it sound like there was stuff up their for yrs that were building up on the intestinal lining. I fell for the procedure but later learned it was bogus
same with ear candling found out that is bogus too. there was a show on tv that explained that what you are seeing after is not ear wax but more like candle wax and could be potentially very dangerous.
A few years ago my ear started to feel clogged. I bought an over the counter ear wax removal kit. It may have had peroxide as one of the ingredients. It made some of the same "snap crackle pop" sounds. I had to do it for 2-3 days, but it did clear things out.
My father had to have his ears done at the doctors office a few months ago. In his case they "flushed" his ears. They used a little pump device and warm water. I'm not sure whether or not there was anything else in the water.
There is also a method called candelling (sp?). You by these wax "candles" - I guess you can get them in a health food store. You kind of have to know what your doing though. The candle is hollow and you put one end in your ear (over a sink) and light the other end of fire. It creates a vacuum and somehow it sucks the ear wax up through the candle into the hollow part. Then, if your curious you can cut the candle upen and look inside for wax bugs! -_-
My DH was having a problem with one ear--clogged, itchy and ringing. He tried all the OTC methods--peroxide, olive oil, kits--they all helped some, but not enough, as the problem persisted. Finally, he went to an ear specialist who cleaned out DH's ears with a vacuum-like apparatus. DH said no pain, but it felt weird. The results were great--clog and ringing gone. Hasn't come back a year later, but if it does, DH says he'd go back and get it taken care of. He tends to get wax build up.
Your eardrum isn't all that far away from that part of your ear canal, that's why it's so dangerous to go any deeper than pinky-tip-depth. The only thing seperating the ear drum from whatever you stick into your ear, is the tympanic membrane. If you puncture that, or damage it, you risk complications, which can include permanent hearing loss. So, if it's too narrow for your pinky tip to fit in it, then it's too narrow for you to be doing it yourself. The pinky is the "measuring stick" the doctors generally use to judge. Pinky fits = okay for patient to try. Pinky doesn't fit = not okay.

i did some reseach a few months ago on candelling. its not safe and its a gimmick same with colonics. but thank you for your input.
My doc used a water pik like thing. Felt a bit strange and then he used a tiny forcepts to pull out a clump that had loosened. I do have the OTC ear cleaner stuff: you put it in the ear, wait a certian time, then flush your ear with warm water in a bulb syringe. That worked, too.
