They should not have done that. Where I live most hospitals have a policy that if a person comes in with chest pains they are given an EKG immediately. I would definitely file a complaint.
we have experienced exactly what you are saying and I know the hospital our granddaughter works in has he same policy...
sorry she went through that and I hope she's ok. I would file a complaint with hospital administrator. If he/she doesn't know about it they can't remedy the situation.
I'm not that patient(no pun intended) or tolerant so I would have only waited an hour at the most. Then told em off and left. If that happens again don't do a walk-in....call an ambulance.
Yes, call an ambulance and tell them to pick you up in the ER lobby, then take you another hospital. I'm sure that would send a message.
omg.....LMAO--for real. IF anyone ever does this--please post and tell me!!!!
It has happened in my town. The patients family called the direct number to the ambulance service (bypassed dispatcher) and told them to send an ambulance to the ER. They requested to be taken to the ER in the neighboring town. Needless to say, it caused a lot of embarrassment to our hospital.
After working in a hospital for years, I can tell you this, chest pain with SOB trumps stitches! Anyone coming in with that is supposed to be seem immediately. Last time I was in an ER (Oct) it took them 14 hours to see my son. But, he was not bleeding, or in any danger.

.............and you waited? 14 hours? May I ask why??
In AZ it's not unusual, especially weekends ,to wait 10-12 hours in the ER to see a dr. The hospitals take you 1st come 1st served and there are a lot of illegals who have no insurance who come in and fill up the waiting rooms with simple maladies like a bad cold or sore thumb etal. They come because they know it's illegal for a hospital to turn them away no matter how serious the illness is. And then the taxpayers pick up the tab.

Are you saying, even if it is a situation like bleeding, or chest pain, you are kept waiting? Wow, my husbands cousin was in ER in Phoenix not to long ago, he did not have that experience at all. As for the stories about the illegals, etc, that part I know is the case in many hospitals, especially the large inner city ones.
I have had my daughter bleeding and in need of stitches (we are talking 1990) and we were waiting more than a few hours. But, chest pain trumps stitches like I said...they are supposed to be taken immediately.
