Hey guys,
Since July I've been experiencing weird nausea each time I eat, and a general feeling of fullness all the time, and bloating. No, I am not pregnant either - I just had a urine test for that July 2, which was negative. I'm a huge hypochondriac, so as soon as these symptoms started happening, I immediately thought I have some horrid disease or cancer, even though it's unlikely. My mind is going crazy with what I COULD have (yes, bad anxiety problems...blah).
Went to the doctor on Friday and she told me to go on acid reflux medication because she thinks that is what I may have. I got very ill a few nights over the course of this past month (including July) and most of it has happened when I ate tomato sauce, but I never had a problem with it before. I took Prilosec on Monday, Tuesday, and today, and haven't felt much better except for stomach pain - which is a side effect of it. My question is, could I really have acid reflux? I'm going to get a second opinion this afternoon, but what if I'm on Prilosec for no reason? I could have something else. At night I get VERY full and bloated, I normally eat 2 Tums but they don't really help either.
Thought I'd see what other people may think. My parents think it's pure anxiety that's causing me to feel this way, but that doesn't explain my body's sudden aversion to tomato sauce...which is troubling. My doctor said that nausea and "fullness" are symptoms of acid reflux, but in my mind I think it might be something bigger than that. What other tests can I ask this 2nd doctor to run? I just want to be at peace with all of this.
Sorry this is so long winded. This is consuming every last part of my mind. I can't even rest
Don't take Tums and Prilosec at the same time. Stop the Tums and continue the Prilosec, it takes time to build up in your system.
It doesn't matter that tomatoes were OK before, you could have an ulcer or just developed a sensitivity to them. Stop eating anything that has tomato in it and see over a week or so if you improve.
Just tell the 2nd doc exactly what you have been experiencing and eating and let them make the diagnosis.
Well first, try to remain calm. There are so many possibilities and many of them are not a life threatening problem. The cause of your symptoms could be gastrointestinal problems such as GERD, IBS, gastritis, diverticulosis, etc. Tomato sauce is very acidic, so I can see how it might upset your stomach, even if it never has before. It could also very well be stress/anxiety, but you want to make sure. Have you tried a mild anxiety medication?
Has your doctor done blood tests for anything? Your doctor may suggest an endoscope and/or colonoscopy also.
I would also have your doctor check for ovarian cancer to rule that out. I say this because you are female and have a couple of symptoms and it is so difficult to diagnose, I would want to be sure. This does not mean I suspect it, but I would not overlook it. Please don't freak out over this suggestion. I am not in the health care field. I only suggest this as a precaution. It is something I would do.
Do you have any other symptoms such as diarrhea, constipation, pain in abdomen, etc.? Have you ever had problems with dairy or wheat/gluten? Any allergies?

Thanks SouthernBelle, I will tell the 2nd doc everything that I said here. I haven't eaten anything tomato related for over a week and still feel like I have a sour stomach at times. I will lay off so many Tums at night and just deal with it.

And finally, what age group are you in?
Hi Beth, I haven't tried a mild anxiety medication, but in my mind, the last thing I want is to be on an anxiety pill. Sounds silly, but I would exhaust all other options before doing that (although I have thought about it). A friend is trying to get an appointment at a local acupuncture place, I told her that I would be interested.
I went to my doctor for a full physical in April, complete with blood testing, a gynecology visit, you name it - the works. My CBC was normal, Vitamin D was real low but I've been taking a supplement for that now. I just had an MRI brain scan in May, also, for a cyst that's in my neck/head - i have to get MRIs once a year. Last November they said that I had mild IBS, and occasionally I do get constipated. Right now I do have some dull pain in my abdomen, but it's more of a feeling of pressure.
Never any problems with dairy or gluten (that I know of!). I don't drink much milk or eat much cereal, but I do like cheese on sandwiches. I also went to the doctor last October for heart palpitations, they did an ultra sound and found that it was normal. I do have tachycardia but the palpitations were strange, but they didn't find any blockages or anything on the ultrasound.
I am 29 years old. My whole physical seemed normal. Maybe it really is anxiety, but who knows at this point.

Since you were diagnosed with IBS, that all makes sense. It can cause all the symptoms you have, including the palpitations. IBS can be triggered by anxiety. I have diverticulosis in a severe way. If I am stressed, all hell breaks loose, literally. Often times IBS, anxiety, and acid reflux are seen together.
I hope the Prilosec helps. I couldn't take the stuff.
I would take all the necessary steps to reduce your stress and anxiety for many reasons.

Hey Beth, thank you for your words. I seem to have anxiety problems every few weeks, and it's always health related. I will look to reduce my anxiety, since that seems to be the culprit. It's amazing what stress and anxiety alone will do to a person's mind and body.
You said you were taking a supplement for the Vit D. I know that when I have taken certain types of supplements in the past, they have irritated my stomach after taking them for a while causing mild gastritis that took a while to heal on Prilosec. Not a solution but a possible suggestion.

Thanks Poltracker! I'm off the supplements this week, it's my last time taking them and then I have to have another blood test to see if they helped. I still feel somewhat nauseous but I refuse to Google anything. I was at the doctors AGAIN last Wednesday and they helped reassure me.
Does this effect only after eating? Is the meal particularly greasy or fatty? If so do you also drink ice water with it? I had a problem where after certain meals I would get nauseous and throw up - then be perfectly fine the next day. I always thought I had a bout of food poisoning - but then I heard from someone that I should try drinking a hot beverage after a greasy meal - usually tea. This has completely worked for me and haven't had a problem with Nausea since. Maybe it had something to do with the cold beverage solidifying the grease?
Anyways just something else to consider...
