Just seeing, if because they drink alot of red wine, does this mitigate the rates? I know France has low heart attack rates, I think, but not sure on stroke -- or on any rates (stroke or heart atack) -- in Italy.

I can't find a nice website w/ good, clear stats on this. Anyone?

Thx.

I heard a report just the other day that said moderate to heavy drinking can increase the risk of stroke. But it didn't say if it was specific to wine or not, and didn't indiate what moderate to heavy drinking was. The study followed 900 people, and the more drinks per day had the higher stroke rates. I too would be interested in what stroke rates are in France especially.

Everything I've read indicates that there's no one fail-safe answer. But the one thing that seems to be a constant, is that very light drinking can be good, while moderate to heavy drinking is very unhealthy - and this is for all sorts of health issues.

Everything I see keeps leading me back to one thing regarding good health: Balance & moderation.

This is just one of many such articles. Stroke Risk Reduction - Alcohol Use - National Stroke Association
