Friend, I would recommend you post your question in your local forum, so you can obtain responses from people in your neck of the woods.
In general, most home care is fine...I have worked in healthcare for over a decade now and unfortunately healthcare professionals get a bad rap because of a small minority of bad apples. Some agencies are better than others, but a great agency can unknowingly hire a bad apple, and a great attendant could be hired at a bad agency. So you can't just rely on the agency reputation alone. Carefully screen any potential help you invite into your home. The agency will have done a background check, but ask for references. Most of the "bad" employees do not last long, so staff who have worked there for more than a couple of years are more likely to be trustworthy. Finally, use common sense: secure medications in a lock box, keep fine jewelery out of sight, and keep money, credit cards, checks, etc. well-hidden. No need to leave temptation out.
Check in on your loved one when he or she has staff in the house...do this several times, but unexpectedly, so you can see what is going on.
Best of luck to you.
