So about a week ago, I started having mild back bain I noticed when I was sleeping. It has been progressively been getting worse and now it hurts to make certain movement.
When I use my hands to lift myself off a chair or lean on my arms it absolutely kills.
I'm only 22 years old, and I usually worry that any unusual pain is cancer or some kind of terminal illness.
Sounds like a pinched nerve or a muscle spasm...don't panic....I doubt you're dying! See the doctor and find out what's happening! You could have a kidney infection! Who knows...but I really doubt you have anything life-threatening!
It's a crappy mattress from Ikea placed on top of a box spring. I considered this may be the problem, but I've been sleeping on it for a month until the back pain began so I don't think that's it.

It is still a fairly new mattress, so I would consider that it may be the problem. If you have pain or burning or need to urinate a lot more than normal, it could be a kidney infection.
OP my wife and I had similiar pain problems. Our old coil mattress was starting to sag so we bought a newer memory foam mattress and that eliminated the back problems immediately.
Many cheap coil mattresses can start sagging within a few weeks after purchase and are a cause of many back pain problems.
