I'm an avid runner, and have been all my life (I'm now 41). I was born with hip dysplasia, and it was corrected as an infant with a brace. I've always loved running, and did so with minimal injuries (foot stress fracture in high school), but nothing unusual. Long distance, mid-distance, I love it all. I'm a mom of six, and I'm sure the pregnancies and deliveries decided to mess with my hips.
I was training for a half all summer, when I started feeling deep groin pain and had to stop. I consulted three doctors before finding a hip preservation doctor in the Chicago area. MRI and x-rays showed a small anterior/superior labral tear in the right hip and mild CAM/pincer-type impingement BILATERALLY. The right hip was the one causing pain, and now the left one is acting up (although I'm not sure if it's from compensation). Who knows? All I know is that the first hip doc suggested arthroscopy, and I'm admittedly scared out of my mind.
I want to recover and run again; anyone have this procedure done, and what was the outcome? I have posted on a running website too, but I'd love to get some input here as well. If anyone knows anything (or even had experience with) Dr. Benjamin Domb or Dr. Shane Nho, I'd really appreciate anything you have at all. I already saw Domb, and I have a second opinion with Nho on Monday.
