Oh my Lord.
That is the worst story I've read so far about this.

Epidural can work well the first time, after that you get decreasing benefit. Something my doctor warned me about. The first one lasted about 4-6 months, the 2nd one lasted about a month, the 3rd one about a week. I quit.

At this point--that first 4-6 month period is looking like a blessing.
The pain is unbearable.

No, epidural did nothing. So he attempted a second one, which also did nothing. However, my other recieved one for her back and it helped her quite a bit. Like someone said earlier, each individual is different. What works for some may not for others when it comes to back pain. I would try it before doing surgery if all else fails.

Have you or your doctor heard about the McKenzie exercises for backs and pain?

When my husband suffered a really painful sciatica attack he went to a chiropractor who taught him these exercises after an evaluation. They worked really quickly to relieve the pain after his regular physician failed to do much except prescribe strong pain meds and muscle relaxants that made him very groggy--and who wanted to refer him to a back surgeon.

The exercises look and are simple to do but proved effective in ending the pain DH had for a month.

Below are links to an evaluation of their effectiveness as well as a video demonstrating how they're done. My husband is a big believer in these and does them every night before bed (take 5 minutes) to prevent future attacks.

Ask your doctor about these...and good luck to you. I know you're suffering. The exercises just might help.

I had similar problem, went to an orthopedic Dr. turned out it was a compression fracture of a vertebra. Don't mess around, get it looked at.

I know, those exercises are amazing...cured my husband of a month-long painful sciatica attack--and a friend's husband's back that was so bad he could not stand...

So very happy they worked for you, too!!
