I go with my husband to all his doctor appointments related to an injury he got about 6 months ago. It started when the pain meds made him either forget to ask stuff, or forget what the doctor said. When your flooded with adrenalin (and you probably are) you won't remember stuff as well, definitely take your wife with you.

Yep. She's going with me Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

I think every patient's appointment should be private. You don't need an audience.

A family member that is there for support or to help with remembering information that is given is not "an audience". I do agree having other people with you is unnecessary for routine visits when the patient is able to remember what they need to discuss with the doctor.

That was just an opinion, everyone does as they like best of course. I would never go to a doctor with someone else, though. It's a private time.

Bringing your wife along is a smart thing to do. She may remember things that you don't and she might think to ask questions that you don't think to ask.

FWIW, (and I am not a medical professional) I don't think that it's that unusual for a person to have cysts in their kidneys. Your situation is "head scratching" because you're also on a blood thinner and you have a stone to contend with - the docs need to know what sort of animal they're dealing with - cyst wise - because they need to determine the best treatment for your stone.

The odds are greatly in your favor that this cyst is just a cyst. If the doc thought it was a life threatening thing, you would have already been imaged.

Hang in there.

I abslutely can not agree with you on this. If, as the patient, unless you are suffering from mental disorders, you have the right to request privatcy, but in more cases than not, especially for those who are aging, forgetful know so little about their bodies they can't comprehend what is being said, another set of ears is wise...No one is talking about 10 people standing around asking questions, but about a very close friend or relative there to help understand what the doctor is saying.

That shouldn't happen until people are well into their 70s. My grandfather is 82 and can catch everything you say.

Oh good grief, my husband was there during some of my doctors appts when I was pregnant with our kids. I wanted him there and he wanted to be there (to hear their heartbeats ). You don't need to be addle headed to want your spouse along on some of these appts - lol.

If the spouse is a worrier and not too bright about the human body, it could be a mistake to have him/her along. ASK QUESTIONS. Don't just sit there. Do you have a relative that you could ask to go with you?
