that is exactly what the OP should do: ask for a payment plan..We did this with hubby's oncology bills. We have insurance as well as medi care but beleive me, neither came close to covering the expenses of radiation for 4 months, cat scans, MRIs, doctors visits, etc. There were more than willing to work with us and set up a payment plan. OP, you can try to nogotiate, but you have already said they have lowered your bill. I think I would work on the payment idea, not on trying to knock more off the overall bills.
