You can actually leak CSF from your ears as well as your nose. This can occur after a head trauma. Other people are born with or develop tracts in their face/head over time. This can occur for months before the fluid becomes infected and tracts to the brain like it did with this man.

Runny noses though are not as suspicious as runny ears

There was an article a year or so back on the same thing that a local woman had (The Washington Post) - took a long time for her to be diagnosed but thankfully, she finally was.
