I am at that age and have had several of my doctors ask me what my plans are. I am not interested in taking estrogen or any other form of HRT until I can be very certain of its safety. Further, I am one year plus into menopause and have not experienced any of the typicial symptoms.

There is such controversy over this and doctors are equally divided on this topic. What are your experiences, recommendations, and thoughts?

Thank you!!!

Hang In There And You Dont Need To Take Estrogen. I Had Two Lumps Under My Arms After Taking Hrt For Three Weeks. Not Worth The Risks,imo...check Out Health Food Stores If You Get Severe Hot Flashes.it May Not Eliminate It,but It Will Help,ie,certain Supplements.

I have no plans to take HRT. I'm two years or so into menopause, I get a few hot flashes, no big deal.

I have gone through menopause with no problems. I would NOT take any kind of hormone therapy unless I was in dire need. Why would you? And I agree with Jana...there are many natural ways to help you "IF" you are having problems associated with menopause. I guess because I didn't have any problems with menopause might very well be part of the reason I feel this way. But I did have cervical cancer at a young age and my Dr.s would not advise any kind of hormone therapy now anyhow---that's makes me wonder just how safe it really is.

I began menopause 20 yrs ago, took Estrogen and am sorry I did! For me it resulted in migraines, breast cysts (benign), and gall bladder surgery! And the only symptoms I ever had were minor hot flashes.

I have been off of Estrogen for over 15 years and would never take it again. And I feel great!!

Many rave about bio-identical hormones. But whatever route you take, remember that each of us are different and have different requirements.

Research and study all you can before you make a decision about HRT for yourself.

Greenie,
I am 44 also, and am doing the same thing, staying away from sugar and refined carbs. I am getting some problems with heavy bleeding, but I'll just deal with it, there is no way I would take hormones for that or hot flashes, not worth the risk.

I had some hot flashes and heavy bleeding about a year ago and then it went away. I'm sure it will come back!

The hot flash was weird the first time. My whole face was on fire. Bizarre. My friend said, "go to the doctor!" I said, "I'm not going to go to a doctor for something that is perfectly normal.

I just think too many people run to the doctor for pills nowadays. And my experience is that most doctors don't know as much as we'd like to think they do..

on hrt my legs swelled up and my calves hurt. i stopped it right away. the doctors said that i didn't have a blood clot, but i decided to not take it. i think if you decide to do anything at all just take natural stuff, like black cohosh.
