I wear sunscreen everytime I go outside (SPF 30; anything higher than SPF 45 is questionable http://www.webmd.com/beauty/sun/high-spf-sunscreens-are-they-better). The only time I don't wear it is when I stay inside all day (I usually stay away from the windows, so I don't worry too much about the sunlight coming through the windows).
Who wants to have to use a "liberal dose" of sunscreen everyday?..Not me, but then wrinkled, weathered skin doesn't bother me at all...plus I find the sunscreen very, very expensive.
I have always been a bit fanatical about keeping my skin as youthful and healthy looking as possible. For the past three years, my outdoor time has increased dramatically. And I always either wear sunscreen, wear a wide-brimmed hat w/ sunglasses, or do all of the above. And doing that works well. But I have a question for you sunscreen users:
Can any of you recommend a good mineral-based sunscreen or sunblock that does not leave your skin a pasty white? All of the 'healthy' non-chemical sunscreens I have tried do not rub into the skin very well. Those are OK if you are spending a day out on the beach or on the lake and you don't care about looking pasty white, but I am searching for a non-chemical sunscreen that I can use over the course of a normal day: driving around, going shopping, working, school, etc. Naturally, I do not want to look like Casper the Ghost while tending to my daily activities.
And so far, the only sunscreens/sunblocks that rub in well are the chemical sunscreens, and those chemicals are not healthy at all for the skin or even for the body (those chemicals absorb into the body through the pores).
I am 40 and still look reasonably young for my age.....and I'd like to keep it that way!
I haven't been in the sun since 1978...maybe 3 times by accident...got a tad red.
People can not believe my skin...smooth as silk 2 little wrinkles at 63.
Tip:
Also, haven't scrunched my face on a pillow for 35 years either.
And bar soap has not touched my face since 1984.
The last few years I've gotten into the tanning thing but have seriously given that some rethinking.. I'd rather have youthful looking skin later into life with some quick spray on sunblock before I go out biking.
The problem is, the one time you forget or it wears off.. bam.. nasty sunburn.. since your skin is not sun adapted.
I hate the look of pasty skin....I live in Florida, have decent melanin production and get about an hour of sun daily which keeps my skin a beautiful golden tan. I am 65 and have fewer wrinkles than most women in their 40s - but I lead a healthy lifestyle - lots of exercise, pure water and I don't use ANY harsh chemicals on my skin, including poisonous suncreens. I use plenty of natural oils like coconut and almond.
