My husband has, what I consider anyway, bad heartburn and avid reflux. His triggers appear to be alcohol if he over does it and coffee but only from Starbucks. If he had these things, he had both heartburn and avid reflux when he goes to bed. If he does not have either of these things during the day he has No issues at night.
If he knows he is going to indulge, he takes Pepcid before. This seems to control it and he does not have the reflux at night. But, again this is in my opinion, he seems a bit of the next day, like he is not feeling 100%. So, before I say anything to him I wanted to get opinions from people who have experience with this. I have a couple questions:
1. If he is only experiencing symptoms when he knowingly eats trigger foods, is it considered controlled? (He had taboo bell for lunch yesterday and no issues for example)
2. Is it normal for there to be a little bit of a "drug hangover" from pepcid/a bout of heartburn and acid reflux?
I don't know if I would call it controlled. I mean, he can control what he does and does not eat, but he has to take pepcid if he knows he is going to indulge.
I have never heard of a drug hangover from pepcid.
There is quite a list of problem foods for this, and to me, they are all good foods! =)
I would also suggest that he does not have any of his trigger foods for several hours prior to going to bed...
I get that he had to take the pepcid if he knows he is going to eat a trigger food, but I have yet to really find anywhere that said this is reversible. The best course seems to be medication when you take something that bothers you or avoiding it.
I guess where I'm going with this is should he be going to see a dr? He has no symptoms if he stays away from alcohol and Starbucks.
alcohol and starbucks-- 2 of god's greatest gifts to humanity. Love my starbucks. Also, enjoy a nice cocktail.
Annnyway, I've been clinically diagnosed with Acid reflux and was put on a prescription med. called Nexium. Works great. I would have terrible heartburn...It got so bad that it was starting to affect my voice and erode my esophagus...had chest pains because of it.
I take it once a day in the morning and never have any sympthoms anymore. It's a miracle drug, tho I do not want to stay on it forever. However, I can eat what I want....not that I eat like crap, I always try and eat well, meaning healthy non-fatty type of foods. Lots of leafy greans, nuts, lean proteins, avacados, bananas, fish, etc...
I've had Acid reflux for years to the point it was eating up my esophagus and has came very close to Cancer. If I was him I would have a Doctor check it out.
Specialist told me No Caffien,Alcohol and I was having trouble with Carbonated Drinks. But lay off all this or I will die.He said I could listen or not it's up to me.
I have acid reflux, started after my gall bladder was removed. I have been on Nexium for several years, helped in the beginning, no longer does. I overheard a women acquaintance of mine saying that she drinks Aloe juice and it does the trick...so, I tried it...and it has really helped me. Have to drink 1 8oz bottle a day, everyday. I buy it at my local Hispanic grocery store.
Interesting advice everyone. I am going to have him read this thread.
